Children's Hospital Oakland has the only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in the Bay Area. With more than 30 pediatric sub-specialties, our doctors and nurses are able to pinpoint problems quickly and design the most advanced and innovative treatments available. Our internationally-renowned Research Institute — ranked 8th nationally in pediatric NIH funding — investigates root causes of disease, pioneering new treatments and cures. Celebrating 100 years of service in 2012, Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland is the Bay Area’s only independent children’s hospital. Additionally, it is one of the few in the nation to combine a social mission to care for all children, regardless of their ability to pay, with a commitment to excellence in medical education and research typically found only at leading university hospitals. 

Because of its founding mission to provide all kids equal access to exceptional care, over 70% of the young patients served at Children’s Hospital annually are from low-income families. The hospital is able to fulfill this mission only with the support of generous community partners.
