Bob Melvin was voted the American League's Manager of the Year, after he led the A's on an unexpected run to a division championship.

The A's, predicted by many to be a 100-loss club after they traded three All-Star pitchers last offseason, instead went 94-68 and overtook two-time defending A.L. champion Texas on the season's final day to win the A.L. West championship.
